Counselor Weekly- 8/9/23

Best Newsletter for Counselors on the Planet

Hello, and welcome to Counselor Weekly! Thanks again for being part of the community!

Want to be a really cool person by referring your friends/colleagues a way to gain access to my newsletter!? Here's a link you can forward that will send them to my sign up page to begin receiving Counselor Weekly every Wednesday. I appreciate your support!

So let's get to it!

Here's the short and skinny of today's newsletter:

  • Quote of the Day

  • Interesting Articles

  • Psychology Today: Pros and Cons

  • Cat Photo

Today is 8/9/23 and it's National Book Lovers Day! I must admit, I don’t love reading, but I sure like podcasts and audiobooks.

Until I have an official sponsor, looks like I'm the sponsor!

It’s live!

Find Your Supervisor is finally live! Just click HERE, or the photo above and it will take you right to the site. If you are an LPC Supervisor in Texas (sorry, starting in Texas only and will look at options for other states down the road), or a potential Supervisee looking for a Supervisor, this is the place for you! It's a directory for LPC Supervisors to market their services by listing their information so that potential Supervisees can connect with them and hopefully find a perfect match! If you have any questions, click REPLY to this email and I can answer any questions you have. Thanks again for allowing me this personal promotion! 🙏

Quote of the Day

And now some interesting articles:

This has always been a curiosity of mine. Where did the counseling hour come from? Was it some arbitrary number, or is there a reason behind the 50 minute session?

There’s quite a bit of information on this site. Spend some time looking around.

To trip or not to trip? That is the question. Psychedelics are becoming a growing trend in mental health.

Psychology Today: Pros and Cons

Probably the most well known directory for mental health professionals, but is it worth it? I’ve had mixed feelings over the years.

Here are some PROS of joining:

  • It’s one of the largest directories for potential clients to find a therapist and gets a ton of visits each day.

  • The directory allows potential clients to search for specific filters to find a good match for services.

  • At $29.95 per month, it can be an affordable marketing tool.

  • You also get a HIPAA compliant teletherapy platform if you don’t already have one.

Here are some CONS of joining:

  • Especially if you’re in a major metropolitan area, it’s hard to be found due to the amount of therapists on the directory now.

  • It costs $29.95 per month. Yes, I had that in the PROS category as well, but it is an additional expense.

Overall, if you’re looking to grow your practice, I think it’s worth trying out for a month or two to see how it goes. If after a few months you’ve received no leads, might not be the best fit. Even one client could possibly pay for your whole year of membership! If you're using (or have used) Psychology Today, click “Reply” to this email and share with me your thoughts. I can share your feedback (anonymously) with the readers.

Recommendations? Interesting topics you would like to know more about? All you have to do is REPLY to this email with your suggestions on how I can make Counselor Weekly even better!
