Best Newsletter for Counselors on the Planet
Hello, and welcome to Counselor Weekly! The newsletter that makes Wednesday just a little bit better!
Thanks again for being part of the community!
Want to be a really cool person by referring your friends/colleagues a way to gain access to my newsletter!? Here's a link you can forward that will send them to my sign up page to begin receiving Counselor Weekly every Wednesday. I appreciate your support!
Until I have an official sponsor, looks like I'm the sponsor!
I'm launching a new site in the next couple weeks and you can sign up to be notified when it's ready to go! Just click HERE, or the photo above and it will take you right to the site. If you are an LPC Supervisor in Texas (sorry, starting in Texas only and will look at options for other states down the road), or a potential Supervisee looking for a Supervisor, this is the place for you! It's a directory for LPC Supervisors to market their services by listing their information so that potential Supervisees can connect with them and hopefully find a perfect match! If you have any questions, click REPLY to this email and I can answer any questions you have. Thanks again for allowing me this personal promotion! š
So let's get to it!
Today is 5/17/23 and it's National Work From Home Day! I never thought I would see a day where we had so many opportunities for work from home as mental health professionals. If you do some (or all) work from home, reply to this email with your thoughts on telehealth. What are the benefits and challenges? I'll share some of the feedback in an upcoming newsletter.
The above picture is from Grovemade. I have bought multiple products from them in the past. If you have an office space needing some "sprucing up", I highly recommend their products. Not the cheapest, but very high quality.
Here's the short and skinny of today's newsletter:

Texas LPC Updates
If you're not a Texas LPC, please disregard this portion...
If you missed the previous Insights Over the Lunch Hour, here's a link.
BHEC's Quarterly Meeting will be on 5/23/23. If you're interested in attending virtually, click here for more info.
BHEC now has a page dedicated to providing information about upcoming rule changes and updates. The goal is to make it easier to provide this information to all licensees. Check it out here. It's actually pretty good and breaks down any current proposed changes for each license.
Quote of the Day
You will only reach the level of success that you believe you can accomplish.
And now some interesting articles:
This article shares some good insight into why we continue to have shortages in mental health providers throughout the nation. On a side note, it reminds me that there are plenty of people in need of counseling, so don't feel like you can't share resources and referrals with other therapists. There is definitely more need for services than there are providers!
If you work with kids, this is a must read. Navigating the process of working with kids and maintaining a balance of disclosing to parents what's discussed in sessions can be extremely tricky.
I shared one of these last week as well, and plan to begin sharing these more often. As a cognitive behavioral therapist, I enjoy these short videos with simple techniques to use.
Ethics
It's amazing how often these violations of ethics happen!
Go to the link below to read about a recent ethical violation as a reminder about boundaries and avoiding losing your license (and/or freedom)! š¬
Recommendations? Interesting topics you would like to know more about? All you have to do is REPLY to this email with your suggestions on how I can make Counselor Weekly even better!

And, Finally the Cat Picture
Since today is National Work From Home Day, here's a cat taking advantage of the holiday and working on the couch! By my son, Cole.
