Good Morning, and welcome to Counselor Weekly! The newsletter as amazing as this beach view ๐Ÿ‘‡

Thanks again for being part of the community!

Want to be a really cool person by referring your friends/colleagues a way to gain access to my newsletter!? Here's a link you can forward that will send them to my sign up page to begin receiving Counselor Weekly every Wednesday. I appreciate your support!

Until I have an official sponsor, looks like I'm the sponsor!

I'm launching a new site in the next couple weeks and you can sign up to be notified when it's ready to go! Just click HERE, or the photo above and it will take you right to the site. If you are an LPC Supervisor in Texas (sorry, starting in Texas only and will look at options for other states down the road), or a potential Supervisee looking for a Supervisor, this is the place for you! It's a directory for LPC Supervisors to market their services by listing their information so that potential Supervisees can connect with them and hopefully find a perfect match! If you have any questions, click REPLY to this email and I can answer any questions you have. Thanks again for allowing me this personal promotion! ๐Ÿ™

So let's get to it!

Today is 3/15/23 and it's True Confessions Day! As counselors, doesn't it feel like everyday is true confessions day though??

Here's the short and skinny of today's newsletter:

  • Coping with Burnout

  • Interesting articles related to mental health

  • Advocacy Corner

  • Cat Photo

Coping with Burnout

Yes, it's a real thing. Mental Health Professionals struggle with burnout.

Most of us have high-stress, demanding jobs. With that, come burnout and compassion fatigue unless you have a system in place. Below is an article from the American Counseling Association addressing burnout (click the picture):

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines burnout as โ€œexhaustion of physical or emotional strength or motivation, usually as a result of prolonged stress or frustration.โ€ Does that sound like you?? The article is from 2018, but it still very relevant and offers some good insight into preventing, recognizing, and coping with burnout.

And now some interesting articles:

Looking for ways to stand out on Psychology Today? Check out this article to see if your profile needs some spring cleaning.

Interesting concept... do you think the US would ever consider prescribing museum visits as a form of mental health intervention?

Studies have shown that art and culture opportunities can boost our mental health.

Kirsten Miller

This is an excellent read related to Narrative Therapy and the stories we tell ourselves. Can help offer insight when thinking about how clients see their world, and how they are able to change that story of their life.

Advocacy Corner

Here is a current posting for a fully licensed LPC or LCSW with experience required. It's also a contract position meaning NO BENEFITS... If we take the higher end salary range of 6K per month, thats an annual salary of $72,000. Remember, this is Denver with a higher cost of living than most places and NO BENEFITS. Health insurance premiums can easily run over 1K per month, and you still have to consider taxes (you're self employed with this job so at a higher tax bracket, and retirement planning. We need to keep working to advocate and refuse jobs that don't pay at the standard we deserve! Keep up the good fight! ๐Ÿ‘Š
