This Week’s Practice Management Tip

682 MILLION

That’s the amount private investors poured into digital mental health, in just the first half of 2024!!

What types of tech are being infused into mental health practices? Primarily AI, and virtual mental health platforms like Grow Therapy, Brightside Health, Talkiatry, and Pelago Health. Huge dollars from investors are pouring into these companies which could cause a shift in how we operate in private practices. Most notably, companies like Grow Therapy and Headway are contracting with therapists in private practice to help with referrals (there’s some good and not-so-good to these new models). Personally, I use Headway and have enjoyed it.

AI is a hot topic with so many different tech startups trying to find a way to monetize mental health without having to address the most costly expense: therapists.

Another trend is the integration of technology into private practices. Some of this is very interesting and can be extremely helpful if utilized ethically.

For example, there are now companies like Upheal that make progress notes and treatment planning much easier through AI. Though I can’t personally speak to any of these resources, it seems to be a growing trend and who doesn’t like the idea of progress notes and treatment plans being created with minimal effort??

Overall, technology seems to be the big trend for 2025. Embracing tech for many therapists can be scary thing, so staying informed is crucial. I plan to explore a lot more of the tech industry in 2025.

Until then, no Counselor Weekly next week due to the holidays, so I wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and holiday season!

See you again in 2025!!

As mentioned above, here’s the article with greater detail on the huge dollars people are investing in digital mental health startups.
