This Week’s Practice Management Tip

STOP SPENDING TIME IN PRIVATE PRACTICE FACEBOOK GROUPS

Yes, stop it. You’re likely to get bad advice, or at a minimum, more confusion by going onto social medial chatrooms to learn about starting, growing, or maintaining a private practice.

I’ve found there are generally two people on these types of Facebook groups:

  • People just getting started and looking for support

  • People selling something

In truth, the successful private practice owners I know spend ZERO time in social media chatrooms because they are busy seeing clients, marketing, connecting with potential referrals, and using their time to systematically grow their practice.

Not only do you risk receiving unhelpful (or even wrong info), the other issue is you’re wasting valuable time focused on building your business! Every hour scrolling Facebook and talking with other people who are struggling with the same issues is an hour you could be doing something much more productive.

If you really need help, start with connecting with a reputable person that has a proven track record of doing exactly what you want to do. Find a mentor that already has created a successful private practice.

Also, remember that owning a practice is a journey of “doing”. It’s not magic, and you probably won’t find success by talking with other therapists in chatrooms. You’ll build success by learning the skills required to be a business owner and entrepreneur.

This article presents some general numbers, but it’s a good reality check of how much time is wasted on social media. What could you be doing with that time to grow your business instead?
