Nine Simple Interventions for Depression

Most of our clients tend to be dealing with depression or anxiety (or both). Here are some simple techniques to employ during a session that may help.

Passive Income Streams for Counselors

One of the most difficult parts of being a mental health professional is trading hours for dollars. What if you would like to make some additional money while sitting on your couch, or on vacation, or out eating dinner, or… you get the point!

There are quite a few ways you can make passive income in mental health. Just takes a little creativity, some work/effort on the front end, and figuring out the best passive income strategy for you. Here are some options:

1. Write a Book: Consider writing a book on a topic within your expertise. It could be a self-help book, a guide, or even a memoir. Self-publishing on platforms like Amazon Kindle can provide ongoing royalties.

2. Online Courses: Create online courses or webinars on platforms like Udemy, Teachable, or Coursera. Once created, these courses can generate income as long as people continue to enroll. In fact, this is one of my passive income streams! I offer LPC Supervisor Courses on my site using Thinkific. Over the last few years it’s allowed me to connect with hundreds of other clinicians and provide a needed service.

3. Digital Products: Develop and sell digital products such as worksheets, e-books, templates, or meditation recordings on platforms like Etsy or your own website. I think this is an untapped market for many therapists. If you’ve created worksheets, or other resources for clients, stop being so selfish and sell it to other therapists!

4. Affiliate Marketing: Recommend products or services related to mental health on your blog or social media, and earn a commission for each sale made through your affiliate links. This one can be done if you already have a following through social media, or some other format.

5. Membership Sites: Create a subscription-based website or community where you provide exclusive content, resources, or support for a monthly fee. As mentioned at the very beginning of each newsletter, I provide this service with FindYourSupervisor.com.

6. YouTube Channel: Start a YouTube channel where you discuss mental health topics, share advice, or offer guided meditation sessions. You can monetize through ads, sponsorships, and affiliate marketing. This might feel a little foreign, but YouTube is huge right now and can be another way to build a following. Just make sure it’s done ethically and responsibly!

7. Podcast: Launch a podcast focused on mental health and wellness. Over time, you can monetize it through sponsorships and listener support. I still have an old podcast called Virtual LPC. I haven’t done episodes in a long time, but if you want to hear about stuff from 2016, you can check out the old podcasts here. This is something I’m considering doing again, but it’s a great way to share your expertise with the world.

8. Start a Group Practice: this one’s a little bit more work at times, but a group practice will allow you to make passive income off each associate you employ. It takes time to develop, but if you don’t mind focusing some time on the business aspect, you can exponentially grow your income.
