Be Careful of “Clickbait” on Social Media Promoting Hiring a Private Practice Coach

I see it, and hear about it all the time… advertisements like:

Work Less, Help Great Fit Clients, & Double Your Income

CUT YOUR HOURS IN HALF & START A PRIVATE PRACTICE THAT CAN MAKE $10K MONTHLY IN 90 DAYS OR LESS.

I could go on and on, but you get the idea. There are A LOT of private practice consultants and coaches out there right now, marketing similar concepts and ideas. Maybe it’s helpful, and you might be the person that really benefits from those resources, but here’s what you should be careful of:

Spending your money to pay another person to “teach” you how to grow a practice might not be the best use of your time (or 💵). Many times, the only person profiting from that transaction is the coach/consultant.

I don’t blame the “therapist-turned-coach/consultant” either. They found a hustle that earns them MUCH MORE MONEY and MUCH LESS STRESS than seeing clients each week.

Most, if not all, of what you need to create a successful private practice is FREE on the Internet. Setting up a business, building referrals, marketing, getting on insurance panels, which EHR to use, etc. You can find it all online (and other places like this weekly newsletter). Another option is to work as a contractor for a private practice to learn the ropes before branching out on your own.

Time spent in private chat rooms and coaching calls is time NOT SPENT on developing and marketing your practice. If you need accountability, reach out to someone in your immediate support system, share your goals/intentions, and ask them to help you remain accountable. That will cost $0 and my experience is most people are much more willing to be accountable to the people they truly know and trust rather than an online community that probably doesn’t care if you succeed or fail in your practice (as long as you keep paying them the monthly coaching fee).
