This Week’s Practice Management Tip

Talk Like a Real Person When Marketing Your Practice

Avoid nonsense like:

“Unlock your inner zen garden and cultivate a lush landscape of emotional equilibrium through our bespoke cognitive pruning techniques. Our seasoned mind-gardeners will help you weed out those pesky thought-weeds and plant the seeds of serenity in the fertile soil of your psyche. Together, we’ll water your withering self-esteem and watch it blossom into a majestic redwood of self-actualization. Don’t let your mental ecosystem become an overgrown jungle of neuroses – schedule your emotional landscaping session today!”

Be genuine, and write your marketing material on your website as you would normally talk to people.

  • Avoid jargon and fancy words. You’re probably not impressing a potential client. You’re more likely confusing, or insulting them.

  • Write content like you would talk in session. Be genuine so clients get an idea of your personality and style when visiting your website, or Psychology Today page.

  • Create a sense of humility. Coming off pompous and/or arrogant will not attract clients, or at least the right clients.

This is for you, and your clients. You’re welcome. The article is from MIT, so you know it’s legit.
