Though the DSM-5 was updated to the DSM-5-TR in 2022, here are some of the major changes made:

• the addition of Prolonged Grief Disorder- clients coping with loss for an extended period of time

• Unspecified Mood Disorder has been added back into the manual.

• Nonsuicidal self-harm

• Gender inclusive language

• Focus on race and discrimination
