Private Practice Membership Groups: Worth the Money?
I’ve researched multiple private practice membership groups. Personally, I find most of them to be a way to play into a therapist’s dreams/hopes of magically creating a private practice that in the words of one person that sells a membership package for counselors:
You can work half the hours, make 3X the income, and see clients you love faster than ever before.
Sounds pretty great, right? The problem is that’s total nonsense in my opinion. The person getting wealthy from this program is the person selling it. I’ve run a private practice for many years now, and if you’re successful, it takes A LOT of WORK! It’s working evenings, weekends, taking phone calls, managing the business aspect, seeing clients, dealing with billing, and on and on.
And don’t even get me started about running a group practice! Even if you are seeing less clients, operating a group practice means you’re investing your time and energy into the other therapists you work with, along with all the additional management requirements.
When considering opening a private practice, or growing into a group practice, it can be extremely beneficial to get support and help along the way. I would recommend connecting with a mentor that has a proven track record creating a practice like you want to build and learn/absorb everything you can from them. Growing a private practice really comes down to hard work, good systems (using the right technology), and MARKETING.
If you’ve had a positive experience joining one of these groups, hit REPLY and tell me your story. I would love to learn about groups therapists can join that are truly beneficial.
